Check

Example or not?

Example or not gives pupils a mix of cases and asks whether each is an example of an idea, and why, so they test where the idea's edges are.

The real slide Chalk makes, in the Classroom look. Every word is written for your lesson when you use it.

How to run it

  1. Pupils decide each case on their own.
  2. They compare with a partner and agree a reason for each.
  3. Reveal the answers and talk through the close calls.

Why it works

Deciding on cases that are almost examples shows whether pupils have the idea itself or only its usual look.
