Key vocabulary

Key vocabulary teaches the lesson's few important words before they are used: each word with a plain meaning and a picture.

The real slide Chalk makes, in the Classroom look. Every word is written for your lesson when you use it.

How to run it

  1. Say each word and have the class say it back.
  2. Give the meaning in pupils' own words, with an example.
  3. Use the word again, and ask pupils to, in the rest of the lesson.

Why it works

Pupils understand a text or an explanation far better when its key words were taught first, explicitly, with a meaning they can use.
