Talk it through
Opinion line
An opinion line asks pupils to stand, or mark, where they are on a line from strongly disagree to strongly agree with a statement, and to give a reason for their place.
The real slide Chalk makes, in the Classroom look. Every word is written for your lesson when you use it.
How to run it
- Read the statement and the things to think about.
- Pupils choose their place on the line and tell a neighbour why.
- Hear reasons from both ends, then let pupils move if they have changed their minds.
Why it works
Taking a position and hearing reasons from the other end makes pupils weigh evidence and put their thinking into words.
