Part-whole brace

A part-whole brace breaks a whole into its parts, and the parts into theirs, with a brace for each. It is the shape of "parts of" and "made up of".

The real slide Chalk makes, in the Classroom look. Every word is written for your lesson when you use it.

How to run it

  1. Name the whole, then each part as its brace appears.
  2. In the pupils' version, the smaller parts are left to fill.
  3. Show a real photograph and ask pupils to point to each part.

Why it works

Seeing how parts nest inside a whole makes a complex thing easier to hold in mind, and to label later.
