Read

Read between the lines

Read between the lines joins a clue in the text to what pupils already know, to say what the writer leaves unsaid: it says, I know, so.

The real slide Chalk makes, in the Classroom look. Every word is written for your lesson when you use it.

How to run it

  1. Read the clue together.
  2. Pupils add what they know, then what it tells them.
  3. Compare two different readings.

Why it works

Teaching inference explicitly improved understanding for skilled and weaker readers alike.
