Read
Read it aloud, stop and ask
Read it aloud, stop and ask has the teacher read a challenging book aloud at a good pace, while pupils follow their own copy, stopping only at a few planned points.
The real slide Chalk makes, in the Classroom look. Every word is written for your lesson when you use it.
How to run it
- Pupils follow in their own copy.
- Read straight through between the stops.
- At each stop, one question, then on.
Why it works
In Year 8, twelve weeks of reading two challenging novels aloud at pace moved poorer readers on about 16 months. It is one small study, so promising.
