Reading roles

Reading roles gives a small group four jobs while reading: predict, clarify, question and summarise, each with a sentence starter.

The real slide Chalk makes, in the Classroom look. Every word is written for your lesson when you use it.

How to run it

  1. Model each role with the group first.
  2. Each pupil takes a role, then they swap.
  3. The summariser reports back.

Why it works

Reciprocal reading helped weaker readers taught in small groups in the EEF trial, but did nothing taught to the whole class, so it is for a group.
