Make sense of it

Sum it up

Sum it up asks pupils to summarise the lesson in a set number of words, using its key words.

The real slide Chalk makes, in the Classroom look. Every word is written for your lesson when you use it.

How to run it

  1. Show the word count and the words to use.
  2. Pupils write alone.
  3. Read two summaries aloud and say what each kept.

Why it works

Summarising in their own words makes pupils choose what matters, a form of generative learning.
