Teach an idea

This is, this isn't

This is, this isn't teaches a new idea through examples and non-examples in a planned order, one at a time, with the same words each time, before any definition. Then pupils say yes or no to new ones.

The real slide Chalk makes, in the Classroom look. Every word is written for your lesson when you use it.

How to run it

  1. Show each example and say only "This is democratic" or "This is not democratic".
  2. Then show new examples in an order pupils cannot guess, and everyone answers.
  3. If pupils get one wrong, show the pair that teaches it again.

Why it works

Pairs that differ in one thing show where an idea stops; examples that differ in everything else show what does not matter. A wrong answer means the examples were not clear yet.
