Tree diagram

A tree diagram sorts examples into the kinds they belong to, under one big idea. It is the shape of "types of" and "kinds of".

The real slide Chalk makes, in the Classroom look. Every word is written for your lesson when you use it.

How to run it

  1. Build it from the top as you explain each kind, one click at a time.
  2. In the pupils' version, the kinds stay and the examples go.
  3. Give pupils new examples to place, and ask which was hardest.

Why it works

Organisers that show how ideas are grouped help memory more than lists of the same facts. The branches carry the structure, so pupils recall the kinds as well as the examples.
