Vocabulary story

A vocabulary story is a short story or account of a few sentences that uses the lesson's key words, each shown with its picture and marked where it comes, so pupils meet the words in use before they use them.

The real slide Chalk makes, in the Classroom look. Every word is written for your lesson when you use it.

How to run it

  1. Show the words and their pictures, and say each one.
  2. Read the story aloud while pupils follow the marked words.
  3. Pupils retell it in their own words, using every key word.

Why it works

Meeting a word several times, in use and with a picture, builds a richer memory of it than a definition alone.
