Nutrients and water are transported around the human body by the blood. After we eat and drink, nutrients and water are absorbed into the blood from the small intestine. The heart then pumps the blood through a network of blood vessels, carrying these important substances to all parts of the body. As the blood flows past cells, nutrients and water move out of the blood and into the cells so they can grow, repair themselves, and make energy. At the same time, the blood collects waste materials and carries them away to be removed from the body. | Chalk
