Teach an idea

Worked example, then yours

A worked example shows a problem solved step by step, then gives pupils a matching problem to solve straight away.

The real slide Chalk makes, in the Classroom look. Every word is written for your lesson when you use it.

How to run it

  1. Talk through each step of the example as you show it.
  2. Pupils solve the matching problem, alone.
  3. Show its steps and ask where anyone went a different way.

Why it works

Studying a solved problem frees attention to understand the method, where solving from scratch uses it up on searching.
